When God would bring forth His Son,
A child like none other,
He chose out a virgin plain, (1.)
And made of her a mother.
This one child her heart did stir,
His words her soul did ponder, (2.)
A sword did pierce her heart as said, (3.)
On Calvary, over yonder.
There she was given over to,
One whom he was most fond.
She was yet a mother still,
But now her son was John. (4.)
To worship her is not allowed,
Not righteous by her behavior,
Of her own words she did declare;
“I rejoice in God my Saviour.” (5.)
(1.) 1 Cor. 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
(2.) Luke 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
(3.) Luke 2:35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
(4.) John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
(5.) Luke 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
