STAND STILL
2 Chron 20:17
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
The stroking brush did pull her hair.
The pain to her was real.
The constant word from Mother was,
“Child, you must stand still!”
His thumbs sought out his trouser seams.
The sergeant made him reel.
But movement was no option here,
He knew he must stand still!
Whether little child or soldier strong,
Discipline has no appeal.
But saints of God their spirits train,
For the Sovereign says, “Stand still!”
The slightest movement on their part,
Will from the Lord distract.
Stillness is required of them
To let all gaze go back.
For Christ alone is worth the look;
He is the central theme.
It’s from his matchless face alone,
Where all the glory beams.
To mix the works of well-meaning flesh,
With grace which stands supreme,
Makes a disgraceful presentation,
A message wrong is seen.
For all glory is Christ’s alone.
He all the work did finish.
Attempts to contribute effort now,
Would his image diminish.
“Not of works,” is plainly said.
For His royal blood did spill.
Give all glory to the Lamb.
And let the Earth be still!
