ANIMATION
What energy our Lord must have,
Who animates all things;
From every little infant’s breath,
To Saturn’s mighty rings.
So that no demon’s energy,
Nor seraph’s swifter flight,
Comes from ought but Him who is,
To all the Life and Light!
It is in Him we live and breath
And abide our earthly stay;
He lays out our time of birth,
And gives our death its day.
Vain man feigns his strength his own,
What folly is this thought.
Just try to toil, or do some deed,
If God wills not it wrought!
When every man and every plant
Has used its alloted force;
Not an ounce of God’s vitality’s gone,
He’s still life’s only source.
Hell’s fires shall burn forever bright.
Heaven’s glory shall never go dim.
For all is eternally maintained,
Directly, and only from Him!
