Crucified For Love’s Sake
The loneliest I have ever been,
Is when God has subjected me to men
Who love him not with my care,
And been pleased to leave me there.
With one eye I’ve looked to them
And with the other I look at him,
Hoping to win their hearts to him;
Or else, he’d call me back again.
His love for them then flows thru me
But I am left for an eternity
Without his special warmth he’s shown
When he and I did walk alone.
Like Elijah my heart is pained
That I have dealt with them in vain
And wonder that he loves them so
That to the wilderness I seek to go.
My devastated heart can’t bear
His loves for them and his care
That once was but mine alone
The greatest love I’ve ever known.
And this, nought else, broke the Savior’s heart,
For death in him did have no part.
And when was the Ghost yielded on the tree ?
Not ’til ” My God, why hast thou forsaken me ” ?
And what of Jonah’s desire to die,
When God repented his judgment cry ?
This is why he fled Tarshish’s way,
As well as Elijah’s juniper stay.
They both have special attendance cease
In lieu of the people’s spirit’s peace.
And the diminishing of one whit of grace
Makes the grave to be their place.
For no one can live on the same plane
When God is please to exchange
His love for one, for the good of all
Into the pit the servant falls !
His only recourse is to cry,
“Wilt thou leave my soul to die ?
I cannot bear thine abandonment
Except I see what, by it is meant.”
That Calvary’s sufferings are my part
As Elijah is sent for the Savior’s heart ( Lk 9:30,31 )
And with Him there to enter in
To similar sufferings because of sin. (2 Cor. 5:21)
And little do the people know
That the Father is pleased to bruise him so. (Isaiah 53:10)
Nor will they know the abandonment
Of one whose whole life is spent;
For God’s glory in a mysterious way
Whose very reputation is cast away (Phil. 2:7)
Never to be cleared on Earth again
Nor find a spirit to him kin;
‘Til in Christ’s presence he doth stand
Only then shown to be God’s man. (Col. 3:4)
Glories are given under his care
And in Christ’s honor forever share !
