DAYS OF THE SON OF MAN #2
Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
It is most interesting to have this record of the Person of the Word Himself, revealing in this preaching session just what He sees as The Sin of Sodom! Think about it! Not just a man preacher, but God himself instructing as to the truth of just what that sin was!
And as we read of his description of the sin of Noah’s day, are we kind of disappointed? All the Lord preached about Noah’s day was that they were doing what all of us do all the time! But we encourage ourselves as we press forth to the Lord getting on to Lot in Sodom! Surely we will hear about Sodomy and homosexuality! For we have been brain washed by the ministries of our day to think on these matters. So we hurriedly read on into verses 28 and 29. But the very first word is somewhat disappointing to these expectations! For he starts off with, “Likewise!”
The Lord again just lists about the same things! He does add buying and selling, planting and building, but nothing of those matters that we have been use to in the preaching of our day! There are just no “issues” here in the Lord’s sermon to get the religious gang excited and stirred up about! Not one single word about homosexuality! We disappointedly have secret thoughts that our Lord really missed a great opportunity to jump on the religious band wagon and enflame the gang with some great “issues!” Because if a man is willing to just take two right wing issues of abortion and homosexuality in these days, he can make a name for himself and provide himself and family a good living within the religious community!
But! Not a single syllable of these from the mouth of the Person of the Word!
So! Just what IS he preaching about? Well first he is instructing these New Testament gospel preachers what kind of attitude their public audience will have. Those to whom his disciples will preach will be only interested in their common routine of life! So the truly God-called preachers will have to preach the word even when it’s out os season! The Whore church, of course, will take a poll and find out just what the populous wants, and will start physically feeding them, since they want to eat and drink. They will start building programs, since they are impressed in larger buildings. They will start discount sales in the church basement of all kinds of items, since they like to buy and sell!
Secondly, and most importantly, the Lord is saying that the greatest danger to the spiritual life is not excitable issues, as abortion and homosexuality, but it is being so busy with the everyday routine that God is left out! He sets this forth in the home of Mary and Martha. We can see Sodom’s sin in the relation of Martha and Mary to the Lord! Martha was all about eating and drinking, which will perish with the using, but omitted “that good part!”
Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
We are clearly commanded in Deuteronomy 6:5, And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Notice that he said, “all!” God will not play second fiddle! And God will not be ignored!
This Iniquity
He calls getting caught up in the common routine of life so that one omits God consciousness, “this iniquity!” And he says it is an iniquity that shall not be purged! – That’s serious! That is what sent the world’s of Noah and Lot, into Hell, and shall do so to America if not prevented!
Isaiah 22:12 And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: 13 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die. 14 And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts. In verse twelve, God calls for repentance and humility, as they thought upon Him! But in verse thirteen they shook off those impressions of the Spirit and threw a party!
Ministries in America today are “healing the hurt” of God’s convicting Spirit, and are aiding the masses in casting off the yoke of responsibility to God! Jeremiah 8:10b …for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. 11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. 12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD. 13 I will surely consume them, saith the LORD:
Our Lord, in his earthly ministry, also called those who practice religion without a conscious spirit of God’s glory, “workers of iniquity!” Matt. 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The sin of Sodom is the sin of America today! It is the sin of the thorny ground hearer! Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Capernaum or Sodom?
If you could choose to go into eternity from either having lived in Capernaum or Sodom, which would you choose? No problem! Right?!? Capernaum was where the Lord Jesus went to live when he left Nazareth! (Matt. 4:13). And he taught in their synagogue. (Mark 1:21). No doubt about it! We’d everyone choose Capernaum, but never Sodom! But you might better give that some more thought. Listen what the Lord said of the two cities.
Matt. 11:23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. So sin greater than homosexuality is the sin of failing to glorify and exalt God in your heart while he is revealing himself among us?!? Yep! THAT’S what he said!
In fact, God clearly lists out the sin of Sodom. We see it in our above listed verse of Luke 17:28. And again in Ezekiel’s writings in chapter sixteen. Ezekiel 16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
Therefore, twice, the Lord’s holy word clearly states that Sodom’s sin was idleness, fulness of bread and pride! – Just like America today!
And the Lord informed Jerusalem, with it’s failed opportunity to know him by all the light of revelation he had sent to them, that Sodom was “more righteous than thou!” (Ezek. 16:52). And listen at verses 47 and 48 of this same chapter: Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways. 48 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
It is a dangerous thing to exalt someone else’s sins, then stand and throw rocks at them, and fail to deal with greater sins within our own camp, and in our own hearts!
Changing God’s Glory
In Romans chapter one we find that it was the changing of God’s glory, (vs. 21,23), and the changing of the truth of God (v.25), that was the cause of the change of the natural use of the human into that which is “against nature!” (v.26). So the cause that brought on the effect of homosexuality was denying God as Sovereign, and His Christ as presently reigning Lord! Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Why do we excuse adulterers, fornicators, and thieves and exalt the sin of the effeminate? They are all listed together under the same heading of the unrighteous that will be prevented entrance into the kingdom! 1 Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, (translated “homosexual” in the Interlinear Bible, Amplified Bible, and Literal Bible), nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
God even tells us that covetousness is idolatry! (Col. 3:5). But we applaud greed and covetousness as the American way! We say, “O! that’s just ambition!” But, dear soul, ambition is the cancer of Christianity! (“Godliness with contentment is great gain!” – 1Tim. 6:6) Yet we have swallowed the lie and deception of Satan by excusing some sins and exalting others! Jeremiah 9:6 Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.
And why do we do this? Because we refuse to examine ourselves in the light of the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to see if we are even in the faith! (2 Cor. 13:5). It’s a lot easier to build a “straw man,” to hold up as the “real” sinner; the “worse” sinner, and verbally beat on him so that no attention will be drawn to ourselves! In this, American religion is being deceived by Satan, the angel of light!
2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Under Satan’s deception, the Whore church shall continue to be judgmental. She will continue to hold up her “issues” before those of her generation. But the True Church, the Bride of Christ will exalt none but Christ, her Head! For she knows by experience that in Him alone there is no condemnation for her realized and confessed sin! And while the world and it’s worldly, judgmental church is “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,” with no true thoughts of God and his redemption, she will be confessing herself a sinner, exalting Christ to dying souls, while holding the world with a loose grip!
