I MAKE ALL THINGS NEW
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
There is virtually no belief even among dedicated people of faith that the new heavens and new earth refers to this gospel age. For a blanket of deception lies upon religion in this day. For by far, the majority of practicing religionists are under the false belief that the Lord Jesus was sent to earth for their physical comfort, and not for their spiritual holiness. But that’s not what the scriptures state. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 1 John 3:8 …For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
THAT is a great misconception! But there is another area of great darkness that farther complicates the knowledge of the truth. For hardly anyone believes that Jesus Christ is presently reigning Lord! Although the scriptures clearly state this, even the sing-songy ‘gospel’ singing has been greatly successful in teaching that ‘we are all going to heaven to crown Jesus as Lord.’ But he was Lord when he got here! Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
But will you just read and believe these few scriptures? Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; That verse clearly sets forth that when the Lord Jesus finished his cross work, he went to sit upon his throne in glory! Therefore he has been reigning on his mediatorial throne for 2000 years!
He shall continue to reign on his throne as Mediator until “all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.” Then he shall return to earth to receive his church without any more provision for a single sin! For he has done a complete work! Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. That is, without any more provision for sin, and unto the church’s perfect and complete salvation, including their glorification.
Revelation 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. 11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
1 Corinthians 15:24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. This passage emphatically states that the Lord Jesus shall continue to reign “until!” It does not state that he shall reign “when!” That means, that he is presently reigning, and shall continue to reign on that mediatorial throne “until” his cross work shall have finished out its intended purpose!
Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. It could not be made any plainer that the Lord Jesus Christ – Jesus of Nazareth – must be reigning in order to assist the church’s prayers!
For except he attains his glory, the individual’s faith would not abide. 1 Peter 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
And another reason that the general population of religious folks can’t perceive that all things are made new is that they do not understand what happened at the cross! In our verses five and six, listed above we read, “he that sat upon the throne said,…It is done.” This corresponds with his words from the cross – “It is finished.” (John 19:30).
Again, ignorant “preachers” and ‘gospel singing’ have focused our attention on only the physical! We have been taught to only look at the nails, thorns and spear. – Which are horrible afflictions to endure. But they are all physical! Our Lord plainly instructed us that God is spirit and must be worshipped in spirit! (John 4:23,24) Consider what the Father was concerned with. In order for the Father to finally receive ‘satisfaction’ from the injustice of man’s sin, leveled against him, the Father looked at the travail of Christ’s soul! Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
He looked to see if this sacrifice perfectly represented God. Was there any blame of others like that of the first Adam? “The woman thou gavest me! It’s her fault!” Was there any humanistic self pity? “I don’t deserve this! I didn’t do anything wrong!”
For the fiery eyes of the Father to look into the depth of the Son’s soul and discover more than the High Priest did in his examination of the sacrificial lamb, the Lord Jesus had to be perfect in every way. – And he was! Listen to what he stated to his disciples as he arose from the last supper to go to Calvary. John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
Negatively the prince of darkness, upon his and his forces onslaught against God in human flesh, would find not the slightest bit of sinfulness in him. The Lord Jesus was not a “lawful captive.” For he had not any sin, although in all points tempted! Isaiah 49:24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?
And positively the Father looked deep into the travail of his Son’s soul and found him to be the perfect representative of the true essence of God dying in human flesh! 2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The life is in the blood. Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. And the blood of the child is determined by the father. And the father of the Lord Jesus was the Holy Spirit, not Joseph! Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Therefore when the Lord Jesus was sacrificed, he atoned for all those given to him by the Father, by shedding the very life of God! That’s what the Father saw when he looked at the travail of his son’s soul! And that’s why he was finally, and forever satisfied concerning all those he loved in Christ from the foundation of the world! Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
Glory to God and the Lamb forever! Wonder of all wonders! Deepest of all mysteries! Christ, the mighty Maker, has died! The Giver of Life has died! John 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; He had to perfectly represent God the Father dying. And he had to represent mankind in his atoning death and resurrection! His living is their living. John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
His dying is their dying. His resurrection to a new life is theirs also. Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Except the Lord effectually reveals to the hearts and minds of the elect of God that righteousness, and not just morality, is that for which Christ came, we shall never see the gospel age as the new world! – For one can be moral – the Pharisees were – and not be righteous. But all who are righteous are moral! Morality is accomplished by pride filled hearts, demanding that God accept them on the basis of their legal works! Righteousness is imputed by the Holy Spirit to those souls whose sins were imputed to Christ. All supposed righteousness, attained by morality are as filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
And except the Lord effectually reveals to the hearts and minds of the elect of God that Jesus Christ is presently reigning Lord, they shall continually withhold his presently reigning glory from Him, darkening their hearts thereby! Sin is defined as ‘coming short of the glory of God.’ (Romans 3:23). And the only recovery of that glory is in the Person and work of the Eternal Son of God. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
For just a mental assent of the Incarnation, the cross, and of a ‘Jesus’ dying upon it, is the faith of devils! James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Only that faith is a true redeeming faith that sees the glory of the cross!
And that glory is in the effectual revelation of the Son of God to the individual’s soul! Zechariah 6:13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
And that glory is the highest, purest and excelling glory, far above the law and morality! 2 Corinthians 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
And yes, there are some things we have not physically seen. Christ has not fully implemented the recovery of all things that are, never-the-less under his power. Hebrews 2:8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
But we are given the eye of faith to embrace that which is yet to be revealed. And all we need see is the Person of Jesus Chris as our Redeemer and Savior. Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
How sad for ‘dedicated believers’ to refuse to see and embrace the presently reigning Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Jeremiah 13:17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.
