THE VOICE WAS PAST
Luke 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
An inspired eyewitness referred to this event as, such a voice from the excellent glory! 2 Peter 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
It was such a voice that another of the eyewitnesses actually sensed it to be so real he states, I turned to see the voice! Revelation 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
He knew the voice to be a Person! John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
It is that Word, that Voice, who sovereignly creates faith within man’s heart in order for him to understand. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Sin caused all mankind to lose the glory! Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; And how shall we ever recover that loss? How shall we, in our sinful state, ever regain such a holy condition? It was the Voice, the Word made flesh in order to dwell among us, who shall ever provide us with the privilege of beholding his glory again! John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
And if ever any soul is invited to come up higher into the mount to see the Word transfigured, in order to allow the inner glory to shine forth through all outward visibility, everything previously thought to be important will disappear! He will be “transformed” (same word, “transfigured”), as his mind is renewed, losing his conformity to carnal earthliness, and having then the inner proof of the perfect will of God! Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Even Moses, (Luke 9:30), previously fashioning that soul towards religious legalities, shall fade as Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. (Romans 10:4). Or an Elijah, having turned the same soul into delving into prophecies, shall fail. All previous knowledge shall vanish away, for Love, the greatest of these, shall forevermore take precedent. 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
For the Word, the Love, is the more excellent way. It is love that is the fulfilling of the law! (Romans 13:10). Poor religionists! Trying to please God by ‘good works.’ But Moses and his law, even with his shining face, has to disappear when the excelling glory shines forth! 2 Corinthians 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. 11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Poor religionists, wanting to build Elijah an equal tabernacle with Christ, (Luke 9:33), with ‘excitement’ in trying to ‘figure out’ some dark prophesy, seeking to discover that which the Word has clearly informed was hidden exclusively with the Father! Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
They, like Judas, kiss the door but never enter in! For the Word is the Door! John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. It is the entrance of his word into the soul that provides the souls entrance into the light of his glory. Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
The heaven’s voice declares! Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 97:6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
The waters of the seas are here to instruct us in just how the knowledge of God’s glory has covered the earth! Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
The visible things of creation have been given in order to reveal to us of the invisible things of God’s Person, rendering all without excuse in not knowing Him! Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
But O! One day the voice shall be past! And then, dear Heart, all that shall be allowed by God forevermore is that Jesus must be found alone! That is the purpose of all revelation! All of creation’s voice was for that sole purpose! Then those without his garment of righteousness shall be irrecoverably cast into outer darkness. Matthew 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen. Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
All of the gospel’s voice was for human kind to come to see Jesus alone! Romans 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
The gospel was not at a distance in the heavens, or far off in the depths, so that men could not obtain it. It has been so readily available to mankind that it was even quoted from the mouths of some who did not believe it in their hearts! Romans 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
But one real day, the very last day, the sun shall rise upon an earth when that gospel voice shall also be past! He who has been the Alpha of that sound, shall also be it’s Omega! Revelation 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
The prophets, the evangelists, the preachers, the pastors, and the missionaries shall all be silenced. The revelation of the gospel – the mystery of God – shall be silenced, and eternally finished. The voice of unquenchable judgment shall now begin! Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. 2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets. 6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
No more privilege of repentance! No more gospel pleadings! No more intercessory prayer! The last elect soul has had redemption applied. Mercy is recalled. Judgment now replaces longsuffering. Time shall be no more. Revelation 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. 11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Daniel’s vision shall now go beyond his time, into its farthest stage. Daniel 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
Rev. 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Foolish men once called ‘movers and shakers,’ captains of commerce, who at one time, as merchants, were the great men of the earth, (Rev. 18:23), shall now attempt to command rocks to cover them with dirt, when once they could have prayed to The Rock for a covering of righteousness! 1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But its too late! For the Voice is now past!
Many, like those who were traveling with Saul of Tarsus, have been close companions of those who heard the Voice. For many only see the light of illumination, but do not experience the effectual call of revelation! Acts 22:9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. 14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. But they will not be able to state with their converted companion, Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: (Acts 26:19).
And many hear a sound but cannot distinguish it! Acts 9:7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. 29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. 30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
…which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more: (Heb 12:19). – And it was granted!
